Everyone knows Interviews are important. If you mange to secure one you need to make sure you use the opportunity to show your employer what you’ve got! If you make it this far your potential employer obviously likes something about you! Follow our simple tips and see if your can improve our interview technique.

Research, Research Research!
It is so important that you research the company where you are interviewing. Look at what they do, how long they’ve been doing it, competitors in the area, the companies mission and anything else you can find. You should be able to do this by looking at the companies website but if not ask them to send you some information. Employers like to know that you’ve made the effort to find out what they do. Never ever mutter the immortal words ‘the agency sent me’ trust me it will not go down well! Do your research and if your employer asks you any questions about the company you’ll be in the know!

Where are you going?

Being late for your interview is a big no no. Make sure you know exactly where you’re going for your interview. Do a trial run before you go and take note of how long it takes to get o your interview destination

Getting a bus?

Traveline offers a fantastic service where you can get bus times by text message!

1) Text your bustope code to 84268 (codes can be found on your bus stop flag or through traveline)

2) Bus timetable information will be sent to you. If you want specific buses add the service number to the end of the code.

You will be charged for this service. For more information visit www.traveline.org.uk

First Impressions Count
First impressions count. Your employers have never met you before and you need to show a professional image. It does matter what type of job your interviewing for always make sure you are smart. If you can, wear a suit!

Smile! One of your best assets is your smile. Smile when you first meet your interviewer and stay positive throughout your interview. It makes a huge difference.

Hand Shakes! When you first meet your interviewer offer your hand for a hand shake, it the universal way to say hello and should get your interview off to a good start.

Shopping! If your interview is in a town centre make sure you don’t go shopping and turn up weighed down by bags! It gives the wrong impression to your interviewer, make sure you save the shopping for celebrating after you get the job!

Practice makes Permanent

If you’re a bit nervous about what you’re going to say in your interview get practicing! It might sound a bit naff but get in front of the mirror and thinking about what your going to say. Keep practicing and you’ll get it permanently fixed in your brain for when you need it!

Nervous

Everyone gets nervous at interviews, and anyone who says they don’t is lying! Don’t panic, take deep breaths and focus what you’re there to do. Your interview is aware that people get nervous in interviews and good interviewers will make allowances for this. Make a joke of it if you want and tell your interviewer your feeling a bit nervous, if anything it could break the ice a little! If you’ve practiced till its permanent you can be sure you’ll get the message across regardless of being nervous.

Ask Questions!!!

One fatal mistake that job seekers make is to not ask questions! When you employer says, ‘do you have ay questions?’ make sure you do! This is your opportunity to find out more and to show your interviewer that you’re interested and have been listening!!! If you’ve done your research you might have some general questions about the company or if the interviewer mentioned something about the role you were unsure about make sure you ask now

Show an interest in your interviewer

If your really stuck for questions to ask you can always take a general interest in your interviewer. Ask them how long they’ve been with the company and what they most enjoy about their role it might even lead to them revealing something that you can ask a question about!

Ask when you’ll be contacted

The one thing we hear constantly is that candidates don’t know when there’re going to be contacted by an employer and have been waiting for days to hear something. Ask when you’re likely to be contacted? What the next stage in the interview process is? And how many other candidates they will be seeing? It just gives you a good idea of what you’re up against and what you should expect.

Thank you!

Make sure you thank your interviewer for the time they gave to interview you. It goes a long way as not everyone does it and could just be the icing on the cake to securing your employment!
